Journey's New Frontman

Since in the 80's, Journey has been one of my favorite bands. Melodic riffs and Steve Perry's high-pitched crooning were more than enough to capture my attention and keep it for the past several decades.

Journey formed in 1973 and released several lukewarm albums in the first couple years. But it wasn't until Steve Perry came onto the scene in 1977 as Journey's lead vocalist that the band really started to skyrocket. The following year Journey's fourth album, Infinity, gave the band its first platinum record and several hit singles.

From 1977 to 1983, Journey continued to be a success thanks to the direction of Perry and lead guitarist Neal Schon. But creative differences plagued the band. Perry and Schon both pursued solo careers throughout the mid-80's and Perry left the band in 1987.

Since that time, Journey has tried to replace Perry with several leads, but each failed to give audiences what they desired. Finally in June 2007, Neal Schon discovered a Filipino singer, Arnel Pineda, online.

Pineda at the time was the lead singer for a cover band called The Zoo. The Zoo performed cover songs by Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, Kenny Loggins and other popular acts from the 70s, 80s and 90s, began appearing on YouTube.com early in 2007. Schon contacted Pineda via e-mail who initially dismissed it as a hoax. Eventually the two connected and Pineda was announced as Journey's new lead vocalist in December 2007.

Who says that broadcasting yourself on YouTube can't be valuable?

So what do you think? Does Pineda sound like Perry?

Styx - Boat on the River

Have you ever searched for a song for 5 years with no luck? You only heard the song once, but you just can't find it? And then one day you wake up and the tune playing in your head? Waking up humming:

Take me back to my boat on the river, and I won't cry out anymore.

I have...

Jackson Browne - Stay [Live 1978]

I just love this song, well yes it is a bit old... Okay too old, but still the good music never dies.

This is my favorite part:

'Cause when that mornin' sun comes beating down
you're gonna wake up in your town
and we'll be scheduled to appear

a thousand miles away from here

People stay just a little bit longer
we want to play, just a little bit longer

Now the promoter don't mind

and the union don't mind

if we take a little time

and we leave it all behind and sing

one more song here

Enjoy. :)

Nova ft. ARABESQUE - Desert Dessert

Every once in a while a sultry soloist will shake up the world stage with their saintly expression. This bears appropriate to Nova, a young Armenian-Iraqi, who’s voice has seized the global podium. Her conflict torn roots have shaped her artistic abilities, allowing her to address and mesmerize a steadfast audience.

Within Temptation - Angels

Within Temptation has been one of my favorite bands for a while. I adore this song, but the video is lame, it could be done way better than this! I swear the video sucks big time!

The song is great, her voice is amazing, but the video... I mean REALLY?! What the hell you were thinking of?

Anyway, enjoy the song.

Timo Tolkki Ft. Michael Kiske - Key to the Universe

Timo Tolkki is one of the greatest guitar players out there, and Michael Kiske is one of the greatest voices out there. So imagine the both of them in one song! It would be great... And it is.

The solos are great, especially the intro. Anyway, I am sorry guys there is no video for the song, that is what I found.

Enjoy.

Plumb - In My Arms

This is one nice song, really. But I guess it is composed for all you mothers out there. :D

For mothers, I dedicate:

Plumb - In My Arms

For non-mothers and House music lovers, I dedicate... Okay also for mothers who like House music:

Plumb - In My Arms (Bimbo Jones Radio Edit)

Enjoy. :)

Your baby blues
so full of wonder.
Your curley cues
your contageous smile.
And as i watch
you start to grow up
all I can do is hold you tight.

Knowing...
Clouds will rage and
storms will race in
but you will be safe,
in my arms.

Rains will pour down
waves will crash all around
but you will be safe,
in my arms.

Story books
are full of fairy tales
of kings and queens
and the bluest skies.
My heart is torn
just in knowing
you'll someday see
the truth from lies

When the clouds will rage and
storms will race in
but you will be safe,
in my arms.
Rains will pour down
waves will crash all around
but you will be safe,
in my arms.

Castles, they might crumble
dreams may not come true,
but you are never all alone
'cause I will always
always love you.

When the...
Clouds will rage and
storms will race in
but you will be safe,
in my arms.
Rains will pour down
waves will crash all around
but you will be safe,
in my arms.

Schiller - I Feel You

Another nice Trance song. I especially like the lyric.

Enjoy.

I feel you...
In every stone
in every leaf of every tree
you've ever grown.
(That you ever might have grown)

I feel you...
In everything
in every river that might flow
in every seed you might have sown.

I feel you...
In every vein
in every beating of my heart
each breath I take.
(In every breath I'll ever take)

I feel you...
Anyway...
In every tear that I might shed
in every word I've never said.

H.I.M. - The Funeral of Hearts

Love's the funeral of hearts,

music arabika

Being abfab fan of all that is arabic music i thought i would share the epitome of this generation of artists and their epic works.

First up is an "underrated" artist that manages to stretch the scope of art from the roof to the bathroom floor passing through the bedroom with thought provoking work such as "don't give me your back". A piece of "art" that is so controversial that it didn't make it into the airways.
متدنيش ظهرك - بوسي سمير

For our friends with "peculiar" fetishism we even have an artist that caters to their every whim, an artist for such a niche crowd should be indicative of how progressive the arabic culture became. For in the video Ana hatlob edak we have najla catering to naturalist and bestiality fans all over the arab world, the amount of people that wish they were mules is astounding.
Najlaa - Ana hatlob edak

While to not leave the S&M and leather fans feel left out she brilliantly mixes a mechanic girl fantasy with some dominatrix demeanor that really irks the mind and soul
Najlaa - Ba7

could this be an innocent mistake ? or a sinister play on words ? well if the singers extreme flexibility and downright originality is anything to go by with i would certainly go with the later. Plus this is the most skin shown in the arab world since we had the dead sea nude beach, truly impressive what you can get away with these days.
Maria - Ba7eb El Mass

I wanted marwa - don't do this" to give a sense of the international penetration those great artists are achieving but I thought the post is already long enough

ps. I'm so not gonna do this ever again so no need to tell me that :P

Awesomest Music videos: Unkle - eye for an eye

Mariah Carey's New Hit!

I swear people I'm not selling out! Sappy pop music isn't usually what I like to listen to but I always felt a special connection to Mariah Carey. Despite her trainwreck days, some stupid songs, and that needy vibe she gives off I think I'll always love her.

Mariah Carey's Music Box was the second album I ever owned; my best friend made a copy of hers and then gave it to me as a very late birthday gift when I was in fifth grade. I've been told a few times that I resemble her, so I always feel the need to represent my alleged celebrity look-a-like. That's natural, don't you?

This is Mariah Carey singing her new release titled Bye Bye on American Idol and I'll be singing it all week.

Mariah Carey Lyrics
Bye Bye Lyrics

Paul Van Dyk - Let Go

From the world of Trance, the latest from Paul Van Dyk. I like the song, but the video?!

"If you want to try and save me,
then take my heart don't hate me.
If you feel you can let go,
let go."

Enjoy. :)

Gregorian

Have you heard of Gregorian before? I think most of you have not.

Gregorian is a German band performing Gregorian chant. But their chant is a bit different from what we know, because theirs is inspired from modern Rock songs and other genres as well. In other words, they mostly play covers from well known songs in their own style. I have to say, it is amazing.

I think that having couple of your favorite songs in Gregorian style is a must. Anyway I will post 3 of my ultimate favorites.

Losing My Religion (Originally by R.E.M.)

Nothing Else Matters (Originally by Metallica)

Moment of Peace (By Gregorian Ft. Sarah Brightman)

P.S. I think Losing My Religion by Gregorian is the greatest song ever created.

The Blue Man Group: Megamix

In my last day in Orlando we were pretty Disneyed out and decided to try something that didn't require so much walking in heat. The Blue Man Group is a theatrical production that was quite heavily advertised in Orlando since that's the birth town (I think). I've heard of them before since they now play in many major cities in the US and internationally and I was really glad we did this over Disney.

They found a found a really creative way to incorporate a high energy concert, witty comedy, and innovative theatrics that explains their success. I highly recommend this show and here's a clip of the blue men and their band playing "megamix".

The Cranberries - Linger

The Cranberries, one of my most favorite bands, and dare I say one of the best Irish bands ever, It's a shame they're not performing as a group anymore.

Linger, released on Feb 93 is one of their best classic hits.

Vanessa Amorosi - Piece Of My Heart

"Piece of My Heart" Originally recorded by Erma Franklin in 1967. The song came to mainstream attention when Janis Joplin and "Big Brother and the Holding Company" covered the song in 1968 on their album "Cheap Thrills" and had a hit with it. The song has since been remade by several singers, including hit versions by Faith Hill in 1994 and Beverley Knight in 2006.

This Live version by Vanessa Amorosi However, Remains one of my most favorite renditions out there.

Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne - Close My Eyes Forever

I am in the mood for some oldies. Anyone interested?

Seeing the name Ozzy in the title, does not really mean heavy stuff, this song is more of a soft rock, and honestly I like it.

Enjoy. :)

Lyric:

Baby
I get so scared inside, and I don't really understand
is it love that's on my mind, or is it fantasy?
Heaven
is in the palm of my hand, and it's waiting here for you
what am I supposed to do with a childhood tragedy?

If I close my eyes forever
will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever
will it all remain the same?

Sometimes
It's hard to hold on
So hard to hold on to my dreams
It isn't always what it seems
When you're face to face with me

You're like a dagger
And stick me in the heart
And taste the blood from my blade
And when we sleep, would you shelter me
In your warm and darkened grave?

If I close my eyes forever
Will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever
Will it all remain the same?

Will you ever take me?
No, I just can't take the pain
But would you ever trust me?
No, I'll never feel the same, Oh

I know I've been so hard on you
I know I've told you lies
If I could have just one more wish
I'd wipe the cobwebs from my eyes

If I close my eyes forever
Will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever
Will it all remain the same?

Close your eyes
Close your eyes
You gotta close your eyes for me

KT Tunstall - If Only

"If Only" is an alternative rock song performed by Scottish singer KT Tunstall for her third album Drastic Fantastic (2007).

I apologize for the video, which isn't much of a video at all, but rather a picture with the song embedded. But just get carried away in the music and forget the lack of eye candy.

Michael and Janet Jackson - Scream

Scream" was a duet between Michael Jackson and his sister Janet, released in 1995. It dealt with the mass media attention both siblings had received in their careers as well as the difficult relationship they shared with their father.

"Scream" remains as one of Jackson's most well-received music videos. It has a futuristic sci-fi theme which features clips of anime and pop culture (such as Andy Warhol's self portrait). At a cost of $7,000,000 (unadjusted for inflation) this video was the most expensive music video of all time. The video went on to win several MTV Video Music Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.

The only song I EVER karakoed to

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I have the worst voice EVER!
not exactly the worst, but let's say that I can't sing to save my life.
I'm usually shy and I freeze in front of big crowds, I blush, shake and sweat. There were over a 100 people in the place and I was freaking out. so I picked Losing my Religion by REM, took the mike, closed my eyes, pretended I was in the Shower and started singing. it really helped that I knew the lyrics by heart. When I was done, everyone started cheering. I'm not sure if they liked my voice or were feeling sorry for me. either way, I really had fun.

will I ever do it again? No way, once was enough :D

Zero 7 - You're my flame

hehe remember Sia ? well this is from the band that she usually collaborates with. I think the video is also pretty interesting.

MMM MMM MMM MMM - Crash Test Dummies

I used to be obsessed with this song. The lyrics are very creative and the video is very very well done.

Definitely this song is underrated. I remember listening to it time after time in 90 something, I was obsessed with it.

Read the lyrics, what do you think this song means?

MMM MMM MMM MMM - Crash Test Dummies

MMM MMM MMM MMM - Crash Test Dummies lyrics

Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmmm

Once there was This Kid Who
got Into An Accident And Couldn't Come To School
but When He Finally Came Back
his Hair Had Turned From Black Into Bright White
he Said That It Was From When
the Cars Had Smashed So Hard

mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm
mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm

then There Was This Girl Who
wouldn't Go To Change With The Girls In The Change Room
but When They Finally Made Her
they Saw Birthmarks All Over Her Body
she Couldn't Quite Explain It
they'd Always Just Been There

mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm
mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm

both Girl And Boy Were Glad
one Kid Had It Worse Than That

'cause Then There Was A Boy Whose
parents Made Him Come Right Home Directly After School
and When They Went To Their Church
they Shook And Lurched All Over The Church Floor
he Couldn't Quite Explain It
they'd Always Just Gone There

mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm
mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm, Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm

.

Anouk

Ever heard of her? She's one of the best rock singers out there, not so much known because... Well I don't know why! All I know is that her name is Anouk Teeuwe, and she's from the Netherlands.

Anyway, if you're into light rock, then check those two songs, it's not a must, but well if you can spare some time then you'll like her. :D

This one is called Nobody's Wife. I like the song, and I think that the video is simple yet brilliant.

The great Losing my Religion in her voice, now this is a must. Unfortunately I couldn't find the video, but I guess this will do. Simply amazing.

You're the voice by John Farnham

Here are the lyrics

You're the voice by John Farnham

We have, the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o

This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing, we can make it better
ooooh, We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?...

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o

[Instrumental(Bag Pipes)]

ooooh, We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?...

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o (x3)

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh-o-o-o, whoa-o-o-o

LOVE IT

My American Idol Favorites

This year the talent on American Idol is AMAZING. They are original. Talented. Can sing and they have a personality.

My number one choice would be "Brooke White", she is very good. She sings with emotion and you can tell she loves to sing and loves the songs she is singing. She plays the Piano and the guitar.

Here's her singing " Let it be".

Another favorite is Jason Castro. AMAZING. I love this song. He plays the drums and the guitar.

Here's him singing "Hallelujah" .

Another guy I like is David Cook,He plays the guitar. I never thought it was possible to rock the song "Hello" By Linoel Richie but he did it!

Not sure if Carly Smithson will win but she sang Black bird and it was amazing. This woman is such a good singer.

I will keep you updated on more performances

The Apple Songs

Seriously, the apple people are brilliant when they pick songs to promote their products.

First they picked the brilliant Feist song, 1 2 3 4 to promote the Ipod

And then the amazing song "New Soul" by Yael Naim to promote the new Apple Macbook Air Pro.

They sure know how to pick the songs, they are so current, even my little girl stops doing whatever she is doing to listen to the songs.

Good job Apple!

The Official Hospital Song

Or so it seems. This awesome song was featured on many shows as the backdrop for suspenseful and dramatic hospital drama scenes.

This particular scene is from ER. Enjoy Wires by Athlete.

Songs of Sia

I wish I can see who checks this blog out cause it seems like the contributors are the only ones that check it, either way the music is out there and it's good music with a heaps of variety.

Either way first time I heard Sia singing she just mesmerized me with her vocals on the track for zero 7 called destiny that was used for a commercial that slips my mind now. I used to wait for that commercial to run so i can listen to the song since I had no idea what the song was.

Anyways forward ahead in time and Sia still sends my mind into a state of bliss when i listen to her songs

Sia - Breathe me
If you are a fan of six feet under this song is certain to stir up your emotions. and if you aren't a fan that song will hopefully have the same effect on you, plus the video is pretty amazing !

Sia - Blow it all away

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

Sometimes I really want to lie down and just forget the world.

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars Lyrics

We'll do it all, everything, on our own
We don't need anything or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world

I don't quite know how to say how I feel
Those three words are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world
Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads
I need your grace
to remind me
to find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world
Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes
They're all I can see
I don't know where
Confused about how as well
I just know that these things
Will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world

Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call

I can't help but sing along with this song.

Matchbox Twenty - Let's See How Far We've Come

Love the song, love the lyrics and love the video.

Matchbox Twenty - Let's See How Far We've Come Lyrics

(Hello, hello, hello)

I’m waking up at the start of the end of the world
But it's feeling just like every other morning before
Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone

The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour and I
Started staring at the passengers who're waving goodbye
Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?

But I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well, I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Well I believe it all is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess we're gonna pretend
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come

I think it turned ten o'clock but I don't really know
And I can't remember caring for an hour or so
Started crying and I couldn't stop myself
I started running but there's no where to run to

I sat down on the street, took a look at myself
Said where you going man, you know the world is headed for hell?
Say your goodbyes if you've got someone you can say goodbye to

I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well, I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come (right now)
Let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe it all is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess we're gonna pretend
Let's see how far we've come (oh yeah)
Let's see how far we've come

It's gone, gone, baby it's all gone
There's no one on the corner and there's no one at home
Well it was cool, cool, it was just all cool
Now it's over for me, and it's over for you
It's gone, gone, baby its all gone
There's no one on the corner and there's no one at home
Well it was cool, cool, it was just all cool
Now it's over for me and it's over for you

I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come (oh yeah)
Let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe it all is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess we're gonna pretend
Let's see how far we've come (oh yeah)
Let's see how far we've come

Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come

Make a memory

It's been a while since I last blogged here, good to be back. That said, I felt that having this song on this blog is a must, although I think most of you probably already heard/watched it.

Bon Jovi's latest albums weren't really a smashing success, but this song is simply superb!

Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder

With the release of their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, Maroon 5's popularity continues to skyrocket. This isn't surprising once you consider that their catchy tunes are inspired by likes of pop icons such as Prince and Michael Jackson.

According to Wikipedia,

The first single, "Makes Me Wonder", was released to radio March 27, 2007. The making of the music video was previewed on MTV's Total Request Live, and premiered on the show March 29. The song debuted at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100, the lowest debuting single of the group's five chart entries. In the first week of May, the single skyrocketed from a lowly position of 64 to #1, the biggest jump in Billboard history. "Makes Me Wonder" has also achieved #1 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs, Pop 100, and Hot Dance Club Play charts.

The video is just as hypnotic as the song. Not only is frontman, Adam Levine, a snappy dresser, but let's just say that if flying was actually this sexy (with the hot flight attendants and the security checks and all), I wouldn't have anything to complain about. :D

(I know 7aki Fadi wasn't originally too keen on this song, but I find it to be pretty groovy so I figured it was worth showcasing again in its own post.)
